Rooted Residence

4 WEEKS

SPRING 2024

Rooted Residence is a mixed-use apartment that represents a dwelling in the city. A dwelling embodies a sanctuary — a place where one seeks solace, comfort, and a sense of belonging.

To create an environment of welcomeness, this project incorporates three main strategies that shape the public perception of the building. At the ground level, the building experiences a push-back move that offers a retreat from the urban setting. Above that space, an overhanging volume provides shelter for the users below.

To support the cantilevering mass, a series of columns are added in a playful way that alludes to nature while also becoming a space where individuals can sit down and spend time.
